Recycling Scrap

Yesterday was a big day with the scrap men coming to clean up all the piles of junk that had been left here.  It really was exciting to see all our hard work in collecting, sorting and stacking scrap paying off as it was loaded onto the truck.

Scrap is saleable so it will be interesting to see what this ends up being worth.
I think the biggest benefit will be in having this place more habitable and in knowing we recycled on a large scale.

The truck got bogged and had to be pulled out by the excavator.

We will have more to go at some stage because there is still junk to be cleaned up, fences to come down and sheds to knock over. Given this truck was full when it left we know we have made a good start!

edit: We removed 9.2 tonne of scrap in this load.

Moving Day

Finally it is moving day.  It is just after 4:30am and I am already up drinking coffee.
I can't decide if I am nervous, or excited, or both.
Both!

I am picturing us planting our ordered potatoes and pruning the orchard soon, but I think it will be all about the boxes, unpacking and trying to find enough firewood to get us started for the first couple of weeks.

Wish us luck, for the adventure starts today :)

A new blog to keep track of our Adventures

30+ acres, 30ish sheep, 4 cows, a small orchard and various pumps and plant as well.
There is a lot to clean up, and a lot to do but we are really looking forward to the challenge.

We dream of turning this into our home, where we can be mostly self sufficient and can raise our children as well as we can.   We both have an interest in Permaculture and this is our chance to put that to a practical use.  I think I need more chickens to put in the orchard!

We are getting ready to start packing boxes and organising the move in early July!
