I have not done any for awhile and am not planning any trips away in e near future so it seemed like a good time to do it.Five poddy calves drinking at the calfeteria; what a clever name!I was silly enough to come home with six calves when the calfeteria only feeds five so this little fellow gets a bucket instead. &Unknownnoreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2072107230867004849.post-16130722836285704022013-04-06T20:29:00.001+11:002013-04-06T20:29:35.917+11:00D-Ram
On Monday the 18th of March I worked in the morning, had a PE assignment due and a History Quiz to prepare for. Naturally this was the day the agent called to say he had just bought us a new ram from the sale in town and we had drive in to pick him up.
This is our 4th ram in four breeding seasons; I kid you not. Our good Wiltshire Horn ram died on the cusp of our first Unknownnoreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2072107230867004849.post-4032815906455868602013-03-17T13:40:00.002+11:002013-03-17T13:40:36.778+11:00Summer Storms
I love summer storm season. There is something fun about the gradual build up of pressure ending in a burst of welcome rain and thunder. Of course, like many things I like there is a down side...
Another tree flattened a fence that we are yet to clean up. Given it was marked to be pulled up this isn't so bad, but still annoying.

Ages ago I posted about 'The Great Wall' and then never posted any more updates. The Mr finally asked me to do it because he is pretty happy with his efforts on this project.
On one wall of the old workshop we built a climbing wall. The walls of the shed had to be re-framed, ply had to be painted, holes had to be drilled and t-nuts had to be put in so the hold could be screwed in.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2072107230867004849.post-88209536817542028172013-01-21T07:45:00.000+11:002013-01-21T07:45:27.613+11:00Painting
I think I saw a tumbleweed blow through this space awhile ago. Updates have been few and far between yet slowly but surely, stuff has been getting done about the place.
The above photo was taken the day we moved in. It is an enclosed verandah and this is where the children sleep; Blue up this end, and Possum down the other end. The local Pony Club had it's Gymkhana after the rain that ended the week of camp. Possum had a lot of fun and came home with about 10 ribbons. The pony was very well behaved and Possum smiled all day, even in the bareback.
She is already talking about the next gymkhana she could go to, there will be no stopping her soon!

Black Cockatoos moved in and made a mess as well as plenty of noise.
The orchard is drying off, but looking good.
The lucerne needs rain, but is holding its own well enough at this point.

Possum's first day of pony camp today. When we drove in she said 'I am excited, but also a little nervous'. The nerves disappeared very quickly when she ran into friends.
Peppy the pony was ready to go and I gave Dad the lead today because he is working for the rest of the week so it will be all up to me then.
The icy pole was a highlight!

Colin and I went to see Monty Roberts perform. I was not sure what to expect from his show but it was actually really good. He certainly has a presence for that kind of live performance which helps a lot.
He worked on a variety of horses with different problems and it was interesting to see what he did in different situations. He did some join up but there Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2072107230867004849.post-61146891778666958712012-08-19T13:51:00.001+10:002012-08-19T13:55:10.558+10:00Waiting for the Rain

Today Mister Music had his second handling. This is the first time he has had a head collar on and the second time he has been on a horse float. Shame this all came about because we wanted to take him to the vet, but good in that he was an absolute superstar! He floated, led, got needled, drenched and gagged and he was really well behaved for all of it given the amount of Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2072107230867004849.post-57956232114506979882012-07-30T09:56:00.002+10:002012-07-30T10:00:13.120+10:00New (to us) Stuff
On the weekend we went to a large clearing sale on the Liverpool Plains. You know it is going to be a large event when the clearing sale has photos up on it's own blog of items for sale. They even had real coffee in the form of a mobile van so I was very happy. There was about 500 people there which is very big for a clearing sale.

OK, I admit it; I went nuts on the photos today, but the sun was warm and the creek bubbled along joyously and it was hard not to love the moment.
The water is so fresh and clear, even after the recent rain.
We packed a picnic lunch and instead of packing drinks for the children I put in two empty cups so they could scoop up their own water straight from the creek. Yesterday we found the first lamb of the season. I joked that rough weather must have been on the way and Amy coined the term RadarLamb.
RadarLamb was correct. Last night storms crossed from the North West of NSW all the way to Sydney. We even had a little hail here before the rain crashed down.
All dry and happy here again this morning. This ewe isUnknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2072107230867004849.post-19304964399701025022012-07-22T19:58:00.002+10:002012-07-22T19:58:46.617+10:00Down to the Wire
It feels like we will be cleaning up here forever!
This afternoon's job was another load of wire to the tip when we did our run in. I do miss having a rubbish service, but there are other benefits to living away from it all. Amazingly none of us sustained anything bigger than a small scratch while we loaded this lot of tangled mess. Wire is not fun to sort out Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2072107230867004849.post-21080810173168281152012-06-20T08:14:00.000+10:002012-06-20T08:15:11.632+10:00Playing with Fire
We decided to burn off 8 acres that is due to be worked and sown in the next little while. We had fire breaks done and there was little to no wind so the conditions looked pretty good when we started.
Of course, 60 seconds after tossing a match in a gusty wind sprung up and we got a little busier than intended keeping an eye on things but it was still all safe, just a little Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2072107230867004849.post-45615621371749419602012-06-04T19:12:00.000+10:002012-06-04T19:48:43.302+10:00The Great Wall
The Mr has been busy out in the workshop.
He has framed up some walls and put in a few interesting angles.
He has also reinforced some sections.
He bought a lot of 19mm ply, drilled a lot of holes and then we painted it.
The colour is Gooseberry Fool. I like it.
Cant wait to show off the finished project!

Overnight the Paulownia trees dropped their leaves all at once.
We have had wonderful Autumn weather here for awhile and now we have the bare trees to match.
It is so fun playing in the leaves.I am glad I don't have to rake them all up!

The Mr got kicked by a horse. He was bruised and sore but thankful that it was not worse.

The local cattle sale this week had us sell three head.
We had a good cow, who had a good heifer, but without a bull it would be easier for us to not have breeding stock to consider. The steer went because he was big enough, we still have a couple of wethers running about so we didn't need meat and it is easier to justify the cost of transport if you sell more.
We only have one steer Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2072107230867004849.post-86426092384875706652012-03-19T15:40:00.000+11:002012-03-19T15:40:02.950+11:00Autumn Update

The former rabbit shed is now empty of anything rabbit related and being used as a feed room. It is a big improvement as far as the shed is concerned and I love having somewhere stock proof and weather proof to put the feed.
The recent rains have made a few jobs move up on the 'to do' list. The carport had ridge capping on the roof, but it was only held down by telecom rope and it Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2072107230867004849.post-85742605970167959882012-02-18T08:45:00.001+11:002012-07-02T14:40:12.664+10:00Rehoming Horses

Once upon a time someone here bred rabbits in a serious way. Not us, we don't even own one, so we are ripping everything out of this shed so we can use it to store the load of hay I just bought.
It seals well and has a good door on it which makes it a handy storage space.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2072107230867004849.post-19145325388445455852012-01-06T14:25:00.000+11:002012-01-06T14:25:50.707+11:00Fence RepairAfter the bigger than expected flood in November, we knew we would have to replace a fence line over the holidays.
